IBM and Roche Present AI-Powered Glucose Prediction App for People with Diabetes

IBM and Roche have joined forces to create a groundbreaking solution for diabetes management: the Accu-Chek® SmartGuide Predict app. This innovative digital health application uses artificial intelligence to deliver predictive glucose insights, empowering people with diabetes to manage their condition more confidently and proactively.

The app works in combination with Roche’s Accu-Chek SmartGuide CGM sensor and provides real-time, predictive alerts that help reduce the risk of hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. The app features three core functions:

  • Glucose Predict: A continuous 2-hour forecast of glucose trends,
  • Low Glucose Predict: Early warnings for impending low blood sugar,
  • Night Low Predict: A night-time guardian that estimates the risk of hypoglycemia during sleep, helping users take preventive action before bedtime.

In addition, the two companies developed an AI-powered tool to accelerate clinical data analysis. Built on IBM watsonx, the tool digitizes, translates, and categorizes anonymized, unstructured clinical data, making study workflows more efficient. By linking CGM data with participants’ daily routines, the tool helps uncover relevant patterns and correlations – advancing research quality and speed.

These innovations underscore the value of interdisciplinary collaboration: “Our partnership with IBM shows how cutting-edge technologies like AI can help deliver patient-focused solutions faster,” says Moritz Hartmann, Head of Roche Information Solutions.

“When AI is implemented with a clear purpose – like supporting people in managing chronic diseases – it becomes truly powerful,” adds Christian Keller, General Manager of IBM Switzerland.

The app will be featured as a case study at this year’s Swiss Economic Forum, taking place June 5–6 in Interlaken – a milestone for digital health innovation.
