Fresenius extends CEO Michael Sen’s contract to 2031, appoints Pawlu to the Management Board
Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA’s Supervisory Board has extended the contract of Chief Executive Officer Michael Sen by five years ahead of schedule. The 57-year-old’s contract will now run until 2031.
According to the company, the decision is intended to ensure continuity at the top as Fresenius continues executing its strategic program. Sen has been CEO since October 1, 2022 and also serves as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of listed Fresenius Medical Care.
Christian Pawlu to take Helios responsibility on the Management Board
Effective July 1, 2026, Fresenius will appoint Dr. med. Christian Pawlu to the Management Board. The 48-year-old will be responsible for Fresenius Helios, including Helios hospitals in Germany and Spain-based private hospital group Quirónsalud.
Pawlu will succeed Robert Möller in the Management Board role. Fresenius said Möller will focus on setting up an executive office in Berlin and Brussels going forward.
Background of Sen and Pawlu
- Michael Sen joined Fresenius in April 2021, initially as CEO of Fresenius Kabi. Previously, he served on Siemens AG’s Managing Board and earlier was CFO at E.ON.
- Christian Pawlu has been COO at Helios in Germany since March 2025 and has served as COO for the Fresenius Helios business segment since September 2025. Before that, he led Corporate Development at Fresenius and previously held roles at Sandoz, as CEO of a tech start-up, and as a partner at McKinsey & Company.
