Annika Hollmann Appointed Head of Communications at the German Organ Transplantation Foundation

As of November 1, 2025, Annika Hollmann (43) has assumed the role of Head of Communications at the German Organ Transplantation Foundation (DSO). The trained science journalist brings extensive experience in public relations and communications within the healthcare sector.

Over the past nine years, Hollmann was responsible for media relations at the Aschaffenburg-Alzenau Hospital. Before that, she worked in the press office of University Medicine Mannheim. With her move to DSO, she now takes charge of the strategic and operational communication of one of Germany’s central institutions in the field of organ transplantation.

The Communications Department’s responsibilities include press and public relations, specialist and hospital communication, and support for the seven DSO regions in their external representation.

Her predecessor, Birgit Blome, who has successfully led the Communications Department since 2007, is now retiring after many years of dedicated service.

The German Organ Transplantation Foundation (DSO) serves as the national coordination center for post-mortem organ donation in accordance with the German Transplantation Act. It supports 1,117 donor hospitals across the country with a wide range of services – including lectures, consultations, training programs, a certified e-learning platform, and specialized information and working materials.

With this leadership change, DSO is sending a clear signal of continuity and further development in its communication efforts surrounding organ donation and transplantation medicine.
