Vetter breaks ground on new production site in Saarlouis

Vetter has marked the start of construction for a new production site in Saarlouis. A ceremonial groundbreaking signaled the first stage of works on an industrial area of around 40 hectares.

First phase: manufacturing building and adjacent facilities

The first expansion step centers on a manufacturing building covering 50,000 square meters. Plans also include production-related infrastructure such as laboratories and warehouses.

Vetter is planning three cleanrooms for aseptic manufacturing of injectable medicines. Two cleanrooms are intended for filling pre-sterilized syringes, and one cleanroom for filling vials.

Investment scope and timeline

Vetter says it expects to invest just under half a billion euros at the site by the planned start of operations in 2031. The project is part of the company’s global growth and investment initiatives.

Jobs expected at the site

Initial plans foresee 400 to 500 new jobs. By the final build-out of the first construction phase, Vetter expects up to 1,500 positions. Longer term, the company cites up to 2,000 possible jobs.

Stakeholder voices

Company representatives were joined at the event by regional and local officials, including Saarland’s Minister-President Anke Rehlinger, Economic Affairs Minister Jürgen Barke, District Administrator Patrik Lauer and Saarlouis Mayor Marc Speicher.

Udo J. Vetter, chair of the advisory board and member of the owner family, described the Saarlouis investment as a key step for expanding capacity for complex medicines and supporting future growth.
