Fresenius is reshaping parts of its senior leadership: the Supervisory Board has appointed Dr Marc-Alexander Mahl to the Management Board as of 1 November 2026. He will take responsibility for Fresenius Kabi and succeed Pierluigi Antonelli, who is leaving the company for personal reasons. The board also extended CFO Sara Hennicken’s contract by five years, taking it to 2032.
New structure at Fresenius Kabi
Mahl has led Fresenius’s Pharma and Nutrition businesses since May 2023, along with sustainability activities in that area. He has been responsible for the global Pharma business since 2011. In his new group-level role, he will oversee Fresenius Kabi; the Pharma business unit remains under his direct leadership.
Nutrition will be run as a standalone business unit. Sébastien Guery will take overall responsibility for the unit, having already led the nutrition business since April 2024. His earlier management roles included positions at Sandoz, DuPont Nutrition & Biosciences and McKinsey. In the expanded setup, Guery will report directly to Mahl.
Continuity in finance
Hennicken has served as Fresenius CFO since September 2022, with responsibility for finance, IT and cybersecurity. She joined the group in 2019 as Senior Vice President Global Treasury & Corporate Finance for Fresenius and Fresenius Medical Care. Before that, she spent 14 years in investment banking, most recently as a Managing Director at Deutsche Bank.
Market relevance
The leadership decisions come as Fresenius moves into the next phase of its #FutureFresenius program. For healthcare communications and market teams, the clearer organizational profile of Nutrition is the main operational signal: medical nutrition will be managed as a separate unit within Fresenius Kabi, while Pharma stays under the direct leadership of the new Management Board member.
