Pharma Germany Welcomes Agreement: Flu Vaccinations in Pharmacies Now Permanent – “Long Night of Vaccination” Kicks Off in October

Just in time for the start of the vaccination season, the German Pharmacists’ Association (DAV) and the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV-SV) have agreed on a reimbursement scheme for flu vaccinations. The new “Agreement on the Implementation and Billing of Vaccinations by Pharmacies” will take effect on October 15, 2025, securing this essential preventive service on a long-term basis.

Pharma Germany explicitly welcomes the agreement. “The easier the access to flu vaccination, the more people can be reached and protected. Pharmacies already make an important contribution to health prevention through vaccinations. The newly concluded agreement is an important step toward ensuring the long-term availability of this service. The potential for pharmacies to contribute to health prevention is, however, much greater,” says Dorothee Brakmann, Chief Executive of Pharma Germany.

Vaccinations are among the most effective and cost-efficient measures medicine has against infectious diseases. Pharma Germany therefore supports the goal of increasing vaccination rates in Germany – especially against influenza – and thus strengthening population health protection.

A special focus this year is the “Long Night of Vaccination” on October 8, 2025. On this day, pharmacies, medical practices, and company physicians across Germany will offer flu and Covid-19 vaccinations until late in the evening. The initiative aims to boost willingness to get vaccinated and raise awareness of the importance of preventive immunization.
