Flix launches international stem cell donation initiative with DKMS – Mobility meets lifesaving
Flix and DKMS are launching a long-term initiative to raise awareness for stem cell donation worldwide. Under the motto “Your Journey Could Save a Life,” passengers will have the opportunity to register as potential donors directly during their trip.
Participating countries include Germany, Poland, Chile, the United Kingdom, the USA, and India. In Germany, the initiative is integrated into the Wi-Fi on FlixBus and FlixTrain as well as a digital campaign in FlixShops. In other countries, passengers can conveniently order a registration kit online.
Every 27 seconds someone in the world is diagnosed with blood cancer – every 12 minutes in Germany alone. Only 30 percent of patients find a matching donor within their family. All others rely on unrelated donors, but many wait in vain for a “match.” Young people are particularly needed, as they are more likely to be selected.
André Schwämmlein, CEO of Flix, explains: “Our campaign with DKMS shows how mobility and purpose can come together. With this initiative, we help connect potential lifesavers with patients around the globe.”
Stephan Schumacher, Managing Director of DKMS Germany, adds: “During their journey, passengers have the time to learn more about our work and request a registration kit. The first step is easy – and it could make the decisive difference.”
Who Can Register?
Anyone aged 17 to 55, in good health, and with permanent residence in Germany can become a potential donor.
How It Works:
- Use Wi-Fi on FlixBus or FlixTrain
- Start registration
- Receive a free kit at home
- Do the cheek swab & send it back
- Give hope to patients worldwide
