Dr Jens Tuischer became managing director of Daiichi Sankyo Deutschland GmbH on 1 November. The former head of the company’s German oncology business succeeds Benoit Creveau, who is leaving the German organisation after more than four years at its helm.
The appointment is relevant for the German pharma market because Daiichi Sankyo is focusing its local organisation on oncology and cardiovascular diseases. The company is also expanding its production and development site in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm.
Oncology and international commercial experience
Tuischer has held both national and international leadership roles at Daiichi Sankyo. Before his most recent position in Germany, he served as Vice President responsible for the company’s commercial oncology business in Europe and Canada. In that role, he worked on portfolio strategy and the marketing of cancer therapies across several markets.
The new managing director also has a medical background. He studied medicine in Heidelberg and Berlin and began his career as a physician at Charité, Universitätsmedizin Berlin. After working in management consulting, he moved into the pharmaceutical industry.
Tuischer also completed a master’s programme in International Healthcare Management, Economics and Policy at SDA Bocconi School of Management in Milan and the Advanced Management Program at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Pfaffenhofen remains part of the site agenda
As managing director, Tuischer is responsible for the strategic development of the German organisation. Daiichi Sankyo identifies oncology, cardiovascular diseases and its positioning as a research-based pharmaceutical company as central priorities.
The Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm site has a specific role in that agenda. Daiichi Sankyo plans to invest around one billion euros there by 2030 to expand capacity and add new technologies. The expansion particularly concerns manufacturing for cancer therapies based on antibody-drug conjugates, or ADCs.
For commercial, communications and market access teams, the appointment also illustrates how closely management, portfolio development and site communication are now connected at research-based pharmaceutical companies.
Creveau led Daiichi Sankyo Deutschland through a period of organisational and strategic change. The company thanked him for his contribution to the development of its German business.
