“Candy Diaries”: New FUNKE podcast combines knowledge, humor, and joy of life around Type 1 Diabetes

Over 400,000 people in Germany live with Type 1 Diabetes – often associated with worries, restrictions, and constant monitoring. With its new podcast “Candy Diaries,” FUNKE now launches a format that blends knowledge, humor, and joy of life.

The hosts are moderator, author, and lawyer Laura Karasek and journalist Stephan Seiler. Both live with Type 1 Diabetes and speak openly about their daily lives. Topics like sports, parties, and sex are discussed honestly, humorously, and without taboos – offering a fresh perspective on a condition that affects so many.

The first episode is available now on FUNKE’s news portals and all major podcast platforms. New episodes will follow every two weeks.

“Diabetes has shown me how consciously you can live,” says Laura Karasek. “Of course, there are days when the values go crazy. But from that, I’ve learned resilience.”

Stephan Seiler adds: “Diabetes can sometimes be tricky. When something goes wrong, you quickly feel lonely. With ‘Candy Diaries’ we want to provide support – for everyone who refuses to be defined by the condition and strives to live a somewhat normal unnormal life.”

• Stephan Seiler is a journalist, author, and podcaster. He was Editor-in-Chief of DB MOBIL and most recently worked for stern magazine. As a Type 1 Diabetic, he brings personal experience and shows how awareness can break down stigma and spread positivity.
• Laura Karasek is a moderator, author, lawyer, and actress. Known from numerous talk and entertainment shows, she now brings her humor, openness, and perspective to the public debate on diabetes.
