AbbVie named official pharmaceutical sponsor of PGA TOUR

AbbVie and the PGA TOUR have announced a new partnership that names the company the official pharmaceutical sponsor of the PGA TOUR and the 2026 Presidents Cup. The agreement is linked to Birdies for Brain Health, a multi-year campaign designed to raise awareness and support for people living with brain health conditions and for their care partners.

The initiative will begin at the 2026 Presidents Cup at Medinah Country Club in Illinois, close to AbbVie’s global headquarters in North Chicago. AbbVie plans an initial donation that will be distributed among six patient advocacy organizations active in migraine, mental health conditions and Parkinson’s disease.

Campaign to expand across PGA TOUR events

From 2027, Birdies for Brain Health is expected to scale through donations tied to every birdie at PGA TOUR Signature Events and the FedExCup Playoffs. Signature Events are limited-field tournaments featuring many of the tour’s leading players, with higher purses and FedExCup points.

For AbbVie, the campaign aligns with its neuroscience activities and its broader interest in conditions that can affect patients, families and wider support networks. The company said the partnership offers a platform to elevate patient and care partner perspectives while supporting organizations focused on science, awareness and care.

Six advocacy organizations named

AbbVie said the following organizations will be supported through the campaign in 2026 and 2027:

  • American Migraine Foundation
  • National Headache Foundation
  • Mental Health America
  • National Alliance on Mental Illness
  • The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research
  • Parkinson’s Foundation

The company cites World Health Organization data indicating that more than one in three people worldwide are affected by a neurological disorder. Against that background, the sponsorship combines professional golf visibility with a health-focused communications program.

Gary Woodland involved in storytelling

AbbVie will work with Gary Woodland, the 2019 U.S. Open champion and one of the U.S. captain’s assistants for the 2026 Presidents Cup. Woodland underwent surgery in 2023 to remove a benign brain lesion and has spoken publicly about the physical, mental and emotional challenges linked to his recovery.

The PGA TOUR framed the partnership as consistent with its community impact activities. According to the organization, PGA TOUR-sanctioned events have generated more than 4 billion US dollars in charitable giving to date.
