LINDA AG launches first OTC private-label medicine with ibuprofen

LINDA AG is moving its pharmacy brand into the OTC medicines segment. The company has introduced Ibuprofen LINDA Apotheken 400 mg as the first pharmacy-only over-the-counter medicine under the LINDA Apotheken brand. According to the company, the product is now available nationwide in LINDA Premium pharmacies.

The launch is supported by a point-of-sale campaign using the claim “Gerne empfehlen wir jetzt auch uns”. The campaign is intended to give the umbrella brand greater visibility in a competitive OTC market.

Ibuprofen as the first product in the line

The initial product is ibuprofen 400 mg in a pack of 20 film-coated tablets. The active ingredient is widely used in self-medication and, according to the mandatory product information, is indicated for fever and mild to moderately severe pain such as headache, toothache and period pain. It is intended for children from 20 kilograms body weight, adolescents and adults.

For participating pharmacies, the medicine adds a branded option to everyday OTC counselling. Jens Zeiger, owner of pharmacies in Nidderau and Bruchköbel and chair of the industry cooperation commission at MVDA e. V., described the private label as an additional element for strengthening local pharmacies through identification with a shared brand.

The new product line was developed by LINDA AG and advisory bodies of MVDA e. V. together with strategic partner PHOENIX Pharmahandel GmbH & Co KG. The cooperation brings together the LINDA pharmacy brand and the capabilities of a pharmaceutical wholesaler.

LINDA AG says another product under the LINDA Apotheken brand is expected later this year. Additional products are currently under review.

Brand background

LINDA Apotheken is a cooperation of independent pharmacists operating under a shared umbrella brand. According to LINDA AG, the network comprises 4,800 LINDA pharmacies, including 500 Premium pharmacies. The brand is owned by LINDA AG, which is based in Cologne.
